Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
